One of the most intelligent investigative journalists I have read is Abrahm Lustgarten of ProPublica. His area of expertise is the oil and gas industry. I discovered him while researching the issue of NORM (naturally occuring radioactive materials) in the exploration of oil in shale. His articles and sources were more valuable than state and federal government sites. On May 21, 2010, Mr. Lustgarten examined the problem with debarment in the matter of British Petroleum's criminal record and recent catastrophic release of oil into the Gulf.
