Lake Michigan Wind Farm Update

by Muskegon Critic

For those who have been following the ongoing West Michigan offshore wind farm saga, and for those who have given some generous donations in our fight, I'd like to provide a little update of what's going on.

I think the Big Lebowski said it best:

I often choose the Big Lebowski to express myself about the wind farm issue because I feel like some random slob drinking white russians who managed to haphazzardly stumble into an epic struggle with some of my pals.

The struggle for offshore wind power, and for a new industry in West Michigan continues.

Cleanliness is next to ECSTASY!

by rb137

I've suffered with varying degrees of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity for twenty years, so I was one of the early devotees to environmentally friendly cleaning products. Given that most American families regularly use toxic chemical cleaners in their homes, housekeeping creates a huge impact -- our sinks and toilets create a nasty assault on our health and the environment.

Most "freshening" chemicals contain VOC's that cause respiratory problems, and chlorine is a menace to health and environment. The truth is that most companies don't have to disclose the chemicals they use in the cleaning products they sell. And there are a lot of harmful toxins in the products we think make us clean.

Saving history...or trying to do so

by rserven

I decided that under the current circumstances, providing some distraction would not be unwarranted...and I have a bit of an update to pass along.

Tonight will be another meeting of the West Orange Zoning Board...concerning the desire of Seton Hall Prep and the Archdiocese of Newark to turn McClellan Old-Growth Forest into sports fields and parking lots.

For those who haven't been following, that is General-in-Chief of the Union Army George Brinton McClellan, who was fired by President Lincoln

If General McClellan does not want to use the army, I would like to borrow it for a time.

--Abraham Lincoln

...and subsequently ran against Lincoln for president as an anti-war Democrat in 1864.  McClellan was also governor of New Jersey from 1878 to 1881.

UPDATE - Diving into the Oil - Finally Seeing under the Water

by Ellinorianne

"Philippe Cousteau Jr. and Sam Champion take hazmat dive into Gulf's oily waters." Quite a headline but that's just what they do and you get to see, first hand, what it looks like to swim through the muck of dispersant and oil that is looming under the surface. It's a metaphor for so much that is wrong with our energy policies in this Country, the costs that we don't see, that are out of sight and out of mind but this disaster is bringing it to full sight now, isn't it? It's something we cannot turn away from.

The Next Dem. Primary Senate Candidate You Should Know About (DK Greenroots)

by wade norris

Now that we have delivered victories for Joe Sestak in Pennsylvania and most likely a win for Bill Halter in Arkansas, you, the Netroots, need to know about the next important Primary Candidate. Just like the race between Lincoln and Halter, this is a choice between a Corporate powered candidate vs a People powered candidate. Andrew Romanoff has taken the same pledge that Barack Obama took to win his race - he has pledged to take no corporate PAC Contributions or Special Interest money.  If you knew nothing else, that would be a good reason to support Andrew Romanoff. However, you need to know why his opponent does not deserve to be re-elected. Michael Bennet is a Bankster Senator and was a corporate raider  before he was appointed a Senator.   There is a clear difference in this race - supporting the Candidate who works for Wall Street or supporting Andrew Romanoff, the Candidate who works for us on Main Street.
