Toxic Ballet

by Michael Brune

The tar sands pits in Alberta, Canada that Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia) and Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) visited last week are so bleak that one UN official, after seeing them for the first time, compared them to Mordor, the hellish wasteland from Lord of the Rings.

But Senator Graham, after meeting with oil industry representatives and tar sands proponents, hailed the toxic mines, the source of the world's dirtiest fuel, as "an industrial ballet," adding that the project "really blends with the natural habitat."

[MI-2] Sierra Club Likes Him 'Cuz He's So Darn Green

by Muskegon Critic

Yesterday the Sierra Club endorsed Dr. Fred Johnson for US Congress in Michigan's second congressional district. A crowd of people showed up from the Sierra Club as well as general citizens and union representatives, one of whom I met from the United Steel Workers.

They made the announcement at Kruse park a couple miles from my house...

Which is pretty fitting for its natural awesomeness...

Widening Gulf between Oil and Security

by Jan Barry

The massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico from BP's drilling platform that exploded and killed 11 workers fouled key fishing areas, befouled wildlife and relentlessly threatened to ruin the region's beaches and tourism industry. But perhaps the biggest shock was the out-of-control oil plume's jolt to Americans' sense of national security.

What Global Warming Looks Like.

by jamesboyce

With the defeat of Mike Castle, there's not one current or potential GOP candidate who is anything close to reasonable on climate change and clean energy.

I wish that every single one of those idiots on the Right, men and women who must not have any kids or grandchildren could watch this video I just got sent from a friend at NRDC.

Watch and pass it on. Preferably to anyone who thinks this year's weather is normal.

Reward Courage on Climate

by mightymouse

One undeniably positive thing we can do here is support Democrats who do the right thing. Think Progress's Wonk Room has a list of six deserving House members, each of who voted for the 2009 American Clean Energy and Security Act, which would have established cap-and-trade regulation of carbon dioxide emissions. Now each faces a tough race for re-election against a climate zombie who opposes limits on CO2.

by TonyMassaro

Today, the League of Conservation Voters launched a new web video that highlights the rampant denial of settled climate science among many Republican Senate candidates running as challengers or in open seat races this election cycle. The animated video is headlined by a proud Sarah Palin who runs through the list of some of the climate denying candidates with glee on her talk show "Tea Time with Sarah Palin". Featured candidates include Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson, Colorado’s Ken Buck, California’s Carly Fiorina and more. Check it out here:

Anti-Science SyndromE Sufferers threaten lives

by A Siegel

Whether it is Corporatist manipulation to undermine science (tobacco, chemicals, climate change) or bizarre conspiracy theory paths (AIDS is caused by West and isn't related to sex) or overwrought Luddite parents (vaccinations), a simple truth:

Anti-
Science
SyndromE
Sufferers
threaten lives.

Koch's Greed Could Kill CA Climate Change Law

by Steven D

It should come to no one's surprise that two of the wealthiest men in America, Charles and David Koch, who just happen to own Koch Industries, a holding company with major investments in the Oil and Gas Industry are attempting to defeat, for their own grubby little purposes landmark climate change legislation in California.  If they succeed it will be a major setback to (1) responsible action regarding the threat of climate change, (2) the development of green industries and jobs, (3) weaning ourselves from dependence on foreign sources of dirty fossil fuels and (4)environmental protection:
