UTE Tribe gives rapacious energy company what for

by Zappatero

This is some of what The Obama administration could be doing to BP. Though American Indian tribes have certainly been subjected to these outrages far longer than citizens in the Gulf, the lying and instiable greed of energy companies remains, as do the negative affects on our environment and local communities.

Energy companies in the Wild West (BP included) still walk as if they'll always have the quickest draw, but The Ute tribe of Utah is showing Questar Energy they can and will fight back against Questar's lying, cheating ways:

Officials with the Ute Indian Tribe shut down construction of the Questar Stagecoach gas plant south of Vernal, Utah on June 23.

The stop-work order was issued because work at the facility was out of compliance with tribal regulations, according to tribal officials.

A Wingers Guide to the Great Hoax known to MANKIND

by TCG

All good right wingers know that Global Warming is a Hoax. Right? Damn right!

As a matter of fact, it is the greatest hoax known to mankind according to some of the zanier folks out there. In fact, not only is global warming fake, we may be headed for a period of global cooling, some say – like Smokey Joe Barton (R-TX) for example.

Unfortunately, for wingers and ol’ Smokey Joe, vast numbers of Tricksy Liberal Scientists refute these arguments (e.g., global cooling) by using actual science and facts and other elitist tricks to show the rise of world wide temperature.  But rest assured, once Smokey Joe regains his seat as the Chairman of the House Energy Committee (if you don't do your job this November), he'll blow the lid of this great global conspiracy.

Fortunately for you, you can learn who is involved in this GLOBAL global warming conspiracy just by clicking the link below.

BP kept drilling after report of leak near blowout preventer

by Christian Dem in NC

One of BP's site leaders at Deepwater Horizon dropped a bombshell at an investigative hearing into the Oilmageddon spill.  Apparently a critical safety device near the blowout preventer was leaking--and BP kept drilling anyway.

Ronald Sepulvado, a BP well site leader, said he reported the problem to senior company officials and assumed it would be relayed to the Minerals Management Service, the federal agency that regulates offshore drilling. The leak was on a control pod connected to the blowout preventer, an emergency mechanism that failed to activate after the April 20 disaster.

"I assumed everything was O.K., because I reported it to the team leader and he should have reported it to M.M.S.," Mr. Sepulvado said.

He could not explain why the company did not respond to his report.

Federal regulations strongly suggest that BP should have stopped drilling until the pod could be fixed.  The fact it didn't is just one more chapter in a growing litany of reckless behavior on BP's part.

Worse than the Oilpocalypse

by LaughingPlanet

This will be brief.

As another week slowly passes us by, and another suffocating heat wave breaks, we are still no closer to joining the rest of the developed world when it comes to scientific data.

When science warns of the worst that can happen, that prospect is not to be dismissed and ridiculed. Far from it. In fact, the intelligent plan is this-

Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

As a country, and overall, as a species, we are falling woefully short on that crucial 1st part.

So what is worse than having the beaches and wetlands of the south under a few inches of oil and toxic dispersant?

How about being under 20 feet of saltwater?

Conservative Columnist Rejects Climate Denial Party Line

by A Siegel

Canada's version of Faux News and the Washington  Times, The National Post, has been a fountain of misinformation and deceit when it comes to climate science.  The National Post's pages have been filled with truthiness dribble from those rejecting science and seeking to distort the science into the public discussion.  Last week, The National Post published a piece grounded in reality, rather than partisan delusion, castigating science denial and asserting that Anti-Science Syndrome suffering Haters Of a Livable Economy are causing harm to conservative causes.
