BP and the Feds have fooled America and the entire world into thinking the BP Gulf Oil Spill is over, that the beaches are clean and that the seafood is safe, and everything is OK.

I just finished reading a book, “Lincoln and his Wife’s Hometown”, because I need to maintain my status as a history nerd. Believe me, you have to read the right things if you want to keep the ladies away. Mary Todd Lincoln grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, the largest slaveholding area of the Bluegrass, and the book documents how Abraham Lincoln’s visits to this city defined and shaped his views on slavery. The book also made me realize how much the slaveholding power of the antebellum South reminds me of the oil industry today.
During its time, the slaveholding faction exerted more influence on the government than any other special interest group, just like the wildly wealthy and influential oil elite. They had so much power in fact, our founding fathers purposely excluded the word “slavery” from the Constitution in order to avoid the subject for fear of angering their slaveholding constituents. They thought if we avoided it, it would eventually just go away. Then the Civil War happened and George Washington felt pretty awkward in Heaven. That’s how powerful the slaveholding elite was – we fought a war over it. And God knows we would never fight a war to protect our oil interests. That would be silly.

As British Petroleum begins the process of silencing any criticism of the mess made by their reckless negligence I’ve been hearing about water pollution problems from DailyKos members that span the spectrum; our increasing desperation for gas, oil, and coal are liable to wreck the country’s groundwater for future generations.
I’d like to share what I’ve found and ask your assistance in stopping it.

Plaquemines Parish - south of Sandy Point; Shell Rock Beach; Petit Bay Chene Fleur; Bay Batiste northeast of Big Island; west side of Saint Marys Point; Bay Ronquille; Isle Grand Terre; South Pass.
Jefferson Parish - southeast of Elmers Island; Grand Isle; Caminada Bay; north of the Grand Isle Bridge.
Terrebonne Parish - south of Timbalier Island; Bayou Petit Caillou; northwest of Bodwin Point; Bay Round; Locust Bayou; Cooke Point.
St Mary Parish - southwest of East Bay; Salt Point.
St. Tammany Parish - north of Treasure Island.

Back on April 20th a strong shock wave holed DWH's BOP/manifold structure. Other pipes and joints were also blasted. Now an estimated 2,250 PSI of oil is escaping.
BP claims "puzzling pressure readings."
For every truth, there is an attractive Chernobyl-modeled lie. This blow out could leak for years.

Mitigation efforts use booms, sand bars, humans walking around with pick-up bags, burnings and skimmers. So far... the "make work mindlessness" of these efforts come down to this:
Gulf Coast "cleanup" and "recovery" are addressing less than 1% of the petrochemical spew. Putting these guys out there for "cleanup" without protective breathers is similar to these:

-- Putting the World Trade Center workers in the burning ruins without breathers.
These are are not getting the simple $29.99 N99 Standard safety masks for particulates.
BP is as bad at protecting workers as Rudy Giuliani. Next they will be selling a corporate symbol "Mr. Cleanup," parallel to Giuliani stumping as "Mr. 9/11."
