A telling comparison on the toxity warnings given to residents of the Utah Oil Spill and the Gulf.  

Utah:  Stay away, don't touch, it's hazardous material.  

The Gulf:  well, you know.

What do you think?

Is BP et al downplaying the health risks for the Gulf residents and/or clean up workers?

I noticed even the Coast Guard personnel were not wearing any protective gear/respirators while boating in a sea of oil.  Why not?

Curing The Gulf: Another Idea and Related Statistics

Well, part of what we have to face is a never ending series of proposals/products/ideas for curing The Gulf. Given that The Gulf is a terminal patient, humans ought to be willing to try anything, at any cost, that might help her.  If we don't, she will have the last word, for sure.   Via McClatchy's Sacramento Bee comes hope that a entirely (Is there such a thing in the universe?) non-toxic product which floats and can soak up the oil. /over the fold

The gulf is fouled. I repeat: that’s not news. It’s not the hot topic of the day. It isn’t fodder for the continuing, persistent cry of our time, to save our planet. It isn’t the latest and the greatest opening for the outrage of eco-bloggers or tears of conservationists. It isn’t a the latest and greatest opportunity to make that most important plea yet again: that human culture come to its senses and stop exploiting before it is too late. No, that isn’t what this disaster is.
