Coalition Movement Camp II: Connecting the Dots
November 14, 2010, 2.00pm to 6pm EDT: http://movementcamp.org

The Coalition Movement Camp series brings new players and possibilities into view and allows us to connect the dots between them. Our goal is to consolidate our collective powers and prepare for a collaborative web development project unlike anything the world has seen.

The inaugural Coalition Movement Camp took place on October 10, 2010. Participants included representatives of Appropedia, OpenKollab, Metacurrency, 350, Dadamac, CoopAgora, JAK Bank, GreenTribe, and Gaia10. For eight hours, we brainstormed ideas towards a new generation of internet platforms and collaborative strategies for the climate crisis. Details of the 10/10/10 Coalition Movement Camp can be found on the Coalition blog
( http://cotw.me/... http://cotw.me/... ).

On November 14, 2010, the conversation continues.

A couple months ago, I was out in Dimock, PA, meeting with community members who've been affected by reckless natural gas drilling in and around their town. I was also there to tape an interview with Leslie Stahl, for an episode of 60 Minutes that will air this Sunday.

'Stupid Indians:' Make Ag Corp Eat Its Words

by Patriot Daily News Clearinghouse

Supervisors of Giumarra Vineyards in California hurl racist insults at indigenous farm workers from Mexico:

"Stupid Indians" .... "Indians are of no use" ..."Indians don’t understand anything or how to do anything"

Workers reported these statements as evidence of the harassment and discrimination based on "indigenous status" for a lawsuit involving the sexual harassment of a 17-year old girl.

The farm workers are organizing to get a United Farm Workers (UFW) contract so they can obtain some protection from the continual abuse and violation of their rights by Giumarra, but a UFW rep told me it will be some time before it is unionized.

We can help now with an e-mail letter campaign to ask Kroger (which buys the produce) to enforce its company rules that  vendors can not discriminate against workers and "must operate in a manner that respects the rights of people."

Melt water, Greenland summer 2010

Photo: Sarah Das, WHOI

Record high temperatures over Greenland in spring and summer brought record melting of Greenland's ice cap in 2010.

Cumulative net annual area changes for the 35 widest marine-terminating glacier outlets

Increasing flow of warm melt waters into cracks and crevasses may lead to ice cap destabilization, rapid outlet glacier flow, rapid ice cap decline and rapid sea level rise.
