Fired for telling the truth at FOX News

With FOX News on a tirade about free speech, the timing seems right to reach into the Wayback Machine for a story about the reporters FOX News fired when, they said, they tried to tell the truth about a public health issue--widespread use in Florida of Monsanto's recombinant bovine growth hormone, rBGH, for increasing milk production. rBGH had been banned in Canada and other countries based on multiple concerns, including a possible connection to cancer.

Earlier in June of this year, I was invited to be part of an interdisciplinary team of wildlife experts, that was organized by the Humane Society of the United States.  There were about five of us from around the country, who work with two HSUS disaster response experts.

We flew into New Orleans with the idea that we were going to spend a week, in the area -- accessing the damage of the Oil Spill; looking at the Habitat at risk.  

And trying to come up with an Inventory if you will, of the short term and long term issues, that needed a response.

Well the hour came, where we finally were -- supposedly -- given our clearance to fly over the area where the Oil was coming ashore.

More than one scientist interviewed by the Press-Register described being offered $250 an hour through BP lawyers. At eight hours a week, that amounts to $104,000 a year.

Muzzling corporate critics: Filmmakers must turn over all outtakes?

"Documentary filmmaking is still the last bastion for truth telling,"  "It's very sad that Dole has now shown their support for Chevron's attack on Joe Berlinger."

Chevron Corp. is embroiled in a 17 year battle over allegations of environmental destruction in Ecuador, and is presenting oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York today, in a related battle. Chevron wants all the outtakes from director Joe Berlinger's 2009 documentary "Crude."

What is at stake from a journalistic point of view is the question of whether, if all outtakes must be made public - whistleblowers or even concerned citizens will be afraid to speak up in the future. How much braver will they have to be if they know that anything at all they say can be made public and dragged through the courts?

Really. It IS time to Blame Canada, re climate bill.

First of all, I do not mean blame Canadians, or the country as a whole. The vast majority of Canadians are very progressive, and vote that way.  But that majority has been held hostage for years by a political logjam.

The problem is that the center and left in Canada are divided into three significant parties. And all of the right wing support is in the hands of a well-disguised far-right circle of corporatists. People used to call them Bush/Cheney light, when a more accurate description is probably Bush/Cheney sly. Rand Paul on mute.

They are one with the oil industry in every practical way, and as a result the current Canadian government is partnered with big oil, and working hard to weaken climate legislation in the US.
