UPDATED: Van Jones' msg to liberals: Don't give in to despair! (now with hate mail!)

Last week in Ann Arbor, Van Jones spoke at the Ecology Center's 40th anniversary. Held on the campus of the University of Michigan, the event was a fundraiser but also an opportunity for Van Jones to share his thoughts on Michigan's role in the environmental movement, the success of places like the Ecology Center and why now is not the time for progressive liberals to give in to despair. In fact, NOW, he said, is the time when we're most needed.

Why I Find Myself Shrieking

I sighed uneasy relief with everyone else when BP finally stopped Deepwater Horizon from emptying itself in the Gulf.  Yes, I knew it was temporary.  Yes, I knew it could blow up again any minute.  But there was, nevertheless, a relief.  For a short time anyway, BP would stop turning the Gulf of Mexico into a disgusting oil gumbo garnished with oil soaked pelicans and dead dolphins.

But then I read this article in the New York Times:

Dolphins "Basted" in Oil Are Watching Us

Humans have made a living hell for the most beautiful creatures on this planet.

For nearly forty years I have been more than enchanted with Cetacea, especially dolphins.  I believe John Lilly was correct about the intellectual capacity of Cetacea in general and the bottlenose dolphin in particular.
