How many Billionaires can dance on a Pinnacle?

by jamess

The GOP often dangles this dream, before its far too loyal followers:

You too, could one day be a Millionaire, or perhaps even a Billionaire, so don't ruin it for everyone, by raising Taxes on the Wealthy. Afterall, someday it could be you.  In their America, anything's possible.

Most everyone, wants to be rich someday.  It's part of the American Dream -- or at least it used to be.  But the way things have been going lately it seems the Dream has been downsized to:

I just hope I can find/keep my Job.

Despite the somber work-a-day reality most people face, far too many still take the Republican dream, at face value.  By following their lead, they hope to strike it rich someday, too.

Perhaps we Dems, should address this rouse, and dare to ask:

What would really happen if we ALL struck it rich?

Because obviously there is only SO much room "at the top" ...

$100 billion/year: tax cuts for 1% or solutions for all?

by A Siegel

"Yes we can!"

Sadly, no we haven't.

Not that the Obama Administration with the support (and urging) of a Democratic House of Representatives and the drag of a Democratic controlled (???) Senate haven't tried to do tremendous things.

Note that, for the most part, President Obama has filled the Administration with competent -- incredibly competent --, dedicate, and ethical people who are interested in working diligently to solve real problems.

Sadly, no we haven't had the true simplicity and clarity of message that "Yes we can" ... "Hope" ... "Change" all represented in 2008.

Clarity, simplicity, stickiness lead to SUCCESs ...

Alan Grayson understands that.

And, looking to Grayson leads to a question: How would you spend $100 billion / year to help create solutions?

On Environmental Communication

by George Lakoff

Today, September 28, 2010, EcoAmerica is hosting an important environmental conference, America The Best, in Washington, DC, for a small group of specialists in environmental communication to see what ideas emerge. Because of the number of distinguished participants, I compressed my ideas to 4 pages. I have written about these issues at length in the journal Environmental Communication, No. 1, 2010, but since a 4-page version has a chance of actually being read, I thought I would send it out beyond the conference participants to see if it can get some discussion started on a national level.

New messaging: Deepwater Horizon changed everything

by neele

The title says it all.  This is our silver bullet, if we can figure out how to use it.

As an alternative to the current food-fight, I'd like to try to offer something constructive.  Here's an idea that I haven't yet seen or heard discussed.  Being overseas, I rely on podcasts for my media fix, so I'm usually half a day behind the flux.  I was listening to last night's Rachel Maddow show on the way home today, and I had an epiphany while listening to her brilliant, but ultimately fruitless, revision of Obama's oval office address.

The thing we need to unite the folks who feel as Rachel and I do, is unified, good, consistent messaging.  I'm not a genius at messaging, but I'm certain we could get a lot of mileage out of one simple, familiar message, repeated ad infinitum: "Deepwater Horizon changed everything."  Follow me after the break if you're willing to be convinced.
