The Last Frontier's Struggle For Our Future: Climate Hero vs Climate Peacock and Climate Zombie

by A Siegel

"Alaska: The Last Frontier" is so eerily echoing of The Final Frontier.  And, as with ever so many episodes of Star Trek: The Final Frontier, The Last Frontier is seeing a struggle that could have life-or-death implications for a planet.

Alaska's election could, plausibly, be a determining factor on the nation's (and the globe's) path forward toward (or away from) a clean-energy future.

AK-SEN: Thinking past Lisa ... to Scott

by A Siegel

Global Warming concern troll Senator Lisa Murkowski has fallen in the Republican primary to a anti-science syndrome suffering hater of a livable economic system, who despises government, and represents fringe extreme views that simply don't meet basic American ideals or the understanding/beliefs of most Americans.  If Murkowski had prevailed in the primary, she almost certainly would have won in the general election.

And, now ... ????

Reid Calls The Bluff Of The Climate Peacocks

by The Cunctator

From the Wonk Room.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is giving obstructionist senators a chance to finally take action on climate and clean energy, after they attempted to block the "unelected bureaucracy" of the Environmental Protection Agency from doing so. After holding a "thrilling" climate caucus with his members last week, the Democratic majority leader plans to bring an "impenetrable" comprehensive package of legislation to repair the damage caused by fossil fuels to our economy and our planet.

OFA: Urgent action needed on clean energy

by Cedwyn

I get emails; you probably have the same one.  Organizing for America is urging action against Lisa Murkowski's amendment to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas pollution.   If her measure becomes law, the effects would be immediate. Nearly every step President Obama has taken to promote clean energy would be repealed. It would wreak havoc on the President's landmark clean vehicle standards that ensure cars go farther on a gallon of gas, and it would block requirements that force large power plants and factories to use new technology and clean energy to reduce their pollution. This resolution is a giant step backward. Will you write your Senators?

What 'Legitimate Claims' look like -- It's time to Raise the 75M Cap

by jamess

BP Hard To Pin Down On Oil Spill Claims NPR, Morning Edition - May 24, 2010 Yuki Noguchi BP has repeatedly said it would pay all legitimate claims resulting from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but such promises raise a crucial question: What exactly does "legitimate claim" mean? [...] BP has declined to define the term or provide examples. BP American President Lamar McKay remained steadfastly vague during a Senate hearing this month. Despite prodding from Washington Democrat Maria Cantwell, McKay would not veer off of his message: We're going to pay all legitimate claims. A BP spokesman declined to discuss the company's definition of "legitimate." In an e-mail, the spokesman said BP hired a firm called ESIS to assess all oil spill claims. As of last week, it had received nearly 16,000 claims. The spokesman said BP has in some cases paid some claims within 48 hours of receiving supporting documentation. What exactly does "legitimate claim" mean?   Good Question. Perhaps this can give us a clue:

What Obama is doing about the BP oil spill

by Benintn

One easy way to see what the US government is doing to coordinate its response to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is by looking at the Joint Information Center Twitter account.  For those who are so busy complaining about the lack of responsiveness, it might be helpful to see what is actually being done and the number of coordinated federal, state, and local responses in coordination with businesses, media, and residents of the area. Looks like they're listening to Fishgrease not listening to Fishgrease about how to boom.
